After about twenty years in the trenches, two degrees (BS and MBA), I finally reached my professional goals, 'goals that I blindly established 20 years ago'. My climb to the golden ring has included the following positions: Supervisor, Production Manager, Quality Engineer, Industrial Engineer, Engineering Manager, and General Manager.
Now, at the age of 41, earning a good salary in Corporate America, I'm through! Burned out and miserable. Completely dissatisfied! There are days that my job makes me physically ill. My stomach gets queasy; my head feels like it's going to explode. All this before 8:00 amonly ten more hours to go!!! There has to be a better way to earn a living?
After spending years, investigating an exit strategy (with limited success), I decided to explore a different avenue. Therefore, as opposed to seeking employment elsewhere 'basically, the same rutjust a different location', I started looking into those, so-called, guaranteed money making systems. As you can see, I was truly desperate. I spent hours upon days reading those get rich schemes. Schemes that promised thousands and thousands of dollars per month and you only have to work a couple of hours per day. Unbelievable!
Unbelievable, at least that's what I thought! Coming from the automotive industry, which by the way is the dirtiest "little" industry in the game, I had always had to work more hours to impress the 'boss --- the man'. Show him how dedicated I was to the company. Outperform, outlast, and out kiss asssadly, that's the game. For me, the game was over, the fat lady had sung! I had worked my last 80 hour week; worked my last weekend; and missed my last child's ballgame. I was also through implementing policies that I didn't believe in and knowingly communicating misleading information - like I said, 'the dirtiest industry in the game'. Regardless of your accomplisments, it's never enough -more-more-more- and where does it end? I wanted (needed) out!
I guess by this time you are wondering what's all this about? It's about having control over your life. It's about working when you want to work; earning what you want to earn; and enjoying life before its too late. It's about getting out and starting over. Starting over with a new found understanding of what is important. Prioritizing based on your own wants and needsnot others'.
